Hi, Scott,

Probably because the school only has one good instrument, which is
currently being used (experimentally) by a new Eb player. See, I was THE
Eb player for about three years around here, and my dissertation topic
(when I get back to writing it, that is) is Chamber Music for the Eb
Clarinet. When I was no longer a registered student, they demanded the
return of the school-owned instrument, so that they could give it to
someone else for use in Wind Ensemble. Needless to say, it's made the
rounds -- three people in a s many semesters. They all whine that it's
too hard to play and out of tune. NO KIDDING - IT'S AN E-FLAT!!!
Anyway, upon the relinquishment of the school instrument, I crazily went
out and bought a brand new Buffet R-13 for a not inconsiderable sum of
money. So they know I have a horn, and they know I can play it. Can't
say that about any of the current students around here. I think if the
girl who played last semester were asked to play the Berlioz, she'd burst
into tears!

This is a state university, Scott -- logic doesn't apply!

Have a nice weekend.

Jacqueline
