Subj: ClarinetFest '97 - Marcellus Tribute
Date: Thu, 12 Sep 1996 19:34:43 -0400

In the next issue of THE CLARINET will appear an official call for
presentation proposals. As the Festival Coordinator for this I.C.A. symposium,
I want to encourage the recommendations from as many people who are interested
in making suggestions for artists, programs, scholarly presentations, etc. The
dates are July 9-13, 1997 and all events will take place on the campus of
Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas USA. All submitted recommendations
will be reviewed by a committee helping to prepare for what we hope will be a
most interesting, entertaining, and inspiring event.

No firm plans have been made yet regarding specific presentations except for
one. It is only appropriate that with the recent passing of Robert Marcellus,
a tribute to honor the life of this most influencial performer and teacher of
the clarinet should be included at the symposium. Gregory Smith of the Chicago
Symphony and Richard MacDowell, Professor of Clarinet at the University of
Texas, will be working together to present a multi-media tribute to the life
and music of Marcellus.

I have been asked to create a way that former colleages and students can make
financial contributions to what will certainly be a memorable presentation. An
account has been established through Texas Tech for ClarinetFest '97 for those
who would like make a tax deductable contribution to the Marcellus Tribute.
Money sent specifically for this purpose will be used only for the tribute.
Please send checks payable to: Texas Tech University and marked ClarinetFest
'97-Marcellus Tribute to me at the address below. I have also listed
appropriate E-Mail addresses below for your convenience.

We are looking forward to hosting the clarinet world in Lubbock and hoping to
meet many people who frequent this bulletin board. Please send any proposals
directly to my private E-mail address and not to KLARINET as only these will
be considerred. Happy practicing!!! BOB
