Dennis asks about Rovner liatures:
-->Has anyone had some hands-on experience with the various Rovner
-->ligatures. <<snip>> it's time for a change.

I've been using the Rovner with almost no openings in it for years. I
don't know the name, but it has only two very small holes just where
the reed shoulder sits. I just got a BG Revelation lig from The Woodwind
catalogue. It is probably a great ligture, but because I am *so* comfortable
with my Rovner, I can't get into the discomfort cycle of testing a new
piece of equipment. I also have the Rovner with a fairly substantial opening
(similar to the one on a Lurie "Springboard" if you know it).

The reasons David Pino gives for using a string lig apply to the Rovner
"wrap-around". This full cloth lig applies pressure evenly and makes more
reeds playable. It also smooths out certain types of inter-register jumps.
However,
if a certain brilliance or an attack sound is what you want, this is *not*
your
ligature. During transition _to_ this ligature, I could believe someone new
might call it "fuzzy". Ultimately, I say choose your equipment and grow
with
it. For me, this is it. ----Bill Fogle.
