Luis Rossi of Chile makes very fine clarinets with a one-piece body (the
barrels and bells are removable), and made one special one with attached
barrel and bell a few years ago. He makes most of his horns out of rosewood
or cocobolo, but quite a few out of grenadilla too. (I've put in lots of
plugs on the list for these instruments - check the archives for more info
or email me privately)
Anyway, he's only been making them for a dozen or so years, so I'm sure
they're not the ones you're referring to.
