Sounds like a good idea--a few years ago we hosted the student wind quintet
from the Prague Conservatory--an incredible performing group. The bassoonist
was attempting to purchase a top quality instrument--the only member of the
group that had what we would consider "first-line" instruments was the
clarinetist--she played on a set of Selmer 10G instruments. After the perfor-
mance the clarinet studio gave her two Gigliotti mouthpieces and three boxes
of Vandoren reeds. She was very taken--their coach explained that the reeds
cost (at that time) the equivalent of $55 us per box and were almost impossible
to obtain. Any more experiences of this sort? Ron Monsen (University of KY).
