I just joined the list and wanted to introduce myself.

I'm actually not a clarinet player; I play classical guitar. However,
I recently re-discovered my father's clarinet up in my attic...it's
been sitting in its case, relatively undisturbed, for 40+ years. The
maker's name is "Fontaine" (serial number 178), and it appears to be
rather nice wood.

Anyway, for mainly sentimental reasons (plus, I'm a sucker for musical
instruments :-), I decided to give it (and ~$225) to my local repair
person to bring it back to life. If/when that's accomplished, I have
this idea that I'll try to learn to play it.

If anyone has any information to pass on regarding this maker and the
quality of their instruments, or the year in which that serial number
was produced (I'm guessing 1945-52), or the chances of bringing back
an old and very dry clarinet, I'd enjoy hearing it.

Regards,
Jeff
