Dan wrote about his feelings on clarinets and tone. I will not include it
in this message. I will say this:

Dear Curmudgeon.

One cannot expect his/her concept of tone to be the same on every clarinet
as the resistance required varies from player to player. You cannot hope to
achieve your concept of tone if the instrument "feels" wrong.

I think we are in agreement, however, that a clarinet alone doesn't have a tone.
