Kenneth,
When I worked at the old Russiaoff Winds I got a chance to try
out lots of mouthpieces. My opinion of crystal is that the sound is
usually very sweet and beautiful but they generally are not very flexible,
the way many rubber mouthpieces are, with respect to different tone
colors. Also, they tend to play maybe a tiny bit softer (tho this may have
been my own personal bias). Lastly, they really are brittle and the risk
of losing a very individual mouthpiece which I have fallen in love with is
too great for me to take.
That's my $.02.
