Tanya,
Perhaps it is the height of the Register key. If the cork under the Register
key is too thick, the key will not raise enough to get a focused sound- this
is Bb which is not a great note on the clarinet (like low C#). There are also
resonance fingerings for Bb to ease the pain.

Subject: Horrible Bb

Hi

Is there anything that can be done about improving a horrible throat Bb?

I use the side key whenever possible, which is heaps better, but that other
note does not seem to improve, despite lots of long note practise.

I am happy with the sound I get from the rest of the instrument but that Bb
is driving me mad!

Any advice would be welcome :-)
