Scott --

Yard sales, garage sales and flea markets are GREAT places to go prospecting
for old, long-neglected but sometimes unique instruments. Where I live (Cape
Cod, MA) the classified section of the local newspaper carries ads on
Thursdays and Fridays for garage sales that coming weekend. Because there are
so many and there simply isn't enough time to go to all of them, check out
the ads that specifically mention musical instruments. If you see something
you like, be sure to go early, before the listed opening time, because
chances are somebody else saw that same thing.

Flea markets are also good hunting grounds, and the bigger the better. Most
dealers don't handle instruments, though, so you have to be prepared to cover
a lot of territory quickly so you don't waste your time.

Good luck!
