Subj: help identifying clarinet age
Date: Wed, 14 Aug 1996 13:13:50 -0400

I have a non-computer using friend who is a professional clarinetist in New
York City who found an old Buffett clarinet in a garage sale out west. Her
name by the way is Jean Kopperud.

The serial number is exactly 700, and pictures she has found seem to
indicate that this clarinet stopped being made around 1840, but might be as
old as 1810. She says the wood is in excellent condition, and that all it
seems to need is new pads. It appears to have practically never been used.

I found a web page that dated buffetts with numbers around 2400 to the early
20th century. Can anyone help us figure out how old it really is, and might
it have more value than the $22 she spent on it? Also, does anyone know if
Buffett has a presence on the web?

Much thanks in advance, please reply publicly to the list or privately to my
email, as is your preference.
