The best way to build technique is through relaxation. However, most teachers
make too big a deal out of it. The most important thing to keep in mind when
you work on "technique" is to play musically, and keep a constant supply of
air.

As for specific ways to build technique, the fingering exercises out of both
Klose 1 and Bearmann 2 are very good. Set your metronome such that you can play
each of these exercises once through at tempo, and then immediately follow that
up with the same exercise twice through at double tempo.

Good luck, and just forget about the fact that you are a clarinetist; be a
musician.
