Hi... A friend picked up a plastic clarinet for me at a yard sale for an
unbeatable price of $5 (Including case, all parts of the instrument, and
an instruction manual: how to put on the reed, how to play, etc!).
He doesn't play, so he had no idea if it was good or not, he just knew
the price was right. I've been playing with it a bit... I took it apart
and cleaned it, reseated two pads, replaced one. I was wondering if
anyone knew anything about the instrument. It says: Pruefer Woodwinds,
Providence, R.I. USA and it is the "Silver Throat Deluxe" model, SN#
62166. It seems to be in excelent condition - I think it may have been
overhauled at some point. All the pads, except for two skin pads, are
made of rubber! They seem to work VERY well... easy to adjust for a
perfect seal. The upper joint's bore is metal - it looks like they took
a copper pipe, and coated it with the plastic. The bottom joint is
normal, exept that it looks like every post was removed and repositioned
directly next to the old hole, which was then filled in with a screw.

A question: Are yard sales generally good places to pick up old
instruments? I've never seen them there before, but I'd love to get old
instruments (not just clarinets - I know how to play, but lack posession
of, flute, sax, and trombone)

Any information or comments are welcome!

Thanks,
Scott
