A heavier instrument presumably means the walls of the instrument are
thicker. Thicker walls will influence tone hole placement and size. A
deeper hole would need to be made bigger or moved upwards to produce the
same note. Also the extra depth of the closed holes will cause the
instrument behave as if the bore is wider in the vicinity of the hole. I
think these effects will be responsible for the difference in tone rather
than the extra weight.
