Clark Brody was the principal clarinetist of the CSO from about 1951 until
1977 or 78. Larry Coombs joined the orchestra as assistant principal/e-flat
clarinetist around 1973, and was appointed principal upon the retirement of
Mr. Brody.

Clark Brody still teaches at Northwestern University, and to know him is to
love him. He is one of the sweetest human beings around, and he is a fine
teacher.

By the way, the recordings made by Larry Coombs as e-flat clarinetist under
Solti (which include Till and Bolero) are among the finest examples of a
beautiful sound I have ever heard on the instument.
