Marylou,
I didn't mean to scare you away from the ARTS contest. If you want to
try entering, you should, because colleges (especially the music
departments of colleges) would like to see that on your application. Also,
you have mentioned that you made the All-State band in California, which
means that you ARE really good (I never made All-State in Illinois), so you
probably have a better chance of getting I better score than I. The
contest would also help you get some pieces ready for college auditions --
the earlier you start preparing for those, the better off you'll be. So,
in conclusion, I say go for it, because there is nothing to lose, only
possible gains.
