1) C clarinet moutpieces (D. Leeson, et al.) - No doubt, most C
insruments throughout the ages have been moade with a view to being
played with mouthpieces specifically intended for them. However, the
Noblet Artist model is clearly meant to be played with a b flat
mouthpiece - and it works, or at leat the one I tried a couple of weeks
ago did. Unforunately, I don't remember what species of mouthpiece it
was, but I was pleasantly surprised at tthe sound I seemd to be getting
out of it, and the excellent intonation. I wasn't quite so happy with the
right-hand keywork, but that may have been a sample fault.
2) The edition of the Bax sonata published here is obviously a
photographic *reduction* of the original, and you need good light and
good eyes to read the notes; in particular, the bottom of the first page
of the last movement is very nasty indeed to read. The original printing was
obviously pretty congested, and the reduction makes it worse
,
3) I heard a broadcast of the Bernstein "concerto" (probably the
Stoltzman recording) a few weeks ago. The orchestra really added to
nothing to it, in my opinion.
