George...

I studied a bit of Jewish culture in my World Lit class last year... and
here are my notes...

(courtesy of my World Lit teacher, Joseph Como...)

KLEZMER is the celebration music of Eastern European Jews. It is a mix
of folk, dance, and liturgical music. It flourished in the
Yiddish-speaking culture in Eastern Europe.

It could be described as "very joyous". It is rather unrestrained.

Klezmer music flourished in Eastern Europe from the Baltic to the Black
Sea, until 1939, when World War II began.

Great waves of Jewish immigration spread Klezmer around the world in the
late 19th-early 20th centuries. At this time, the music was also brought
to North America.

Klezmer has survived Hitler and Stalin. Since the mid 1970's, it has
been through an (inter)national renaissance, and has taken its place on
the world stage.

Adding in my two cents,
