Just in case others are interested...

I have thoroughly enjoyed (and gained a lot) from:

Kostka and Payne Tonal Theory.

and

Aldwell and Schacter...er... I don't remember the title.

I have encountered both in college theory courses and I keep Kostka and
Payne around as a reference, it's not exhaustive but it is user friendly.

Also if you can stand the bone dry writing Walter Piston has written a
book titled Harmony and also one called Orchestration, which I liked a lot.

And if you just like music and/or have any interest in composing or
arranging or instrumental lore Anatomy of the Orchestra by Norman Del Mar
is a really good read.

Enjoy,
Jamileh Jemison
