Seems like I have caught the end of a discussion seeking the meaning of the
term "stentando." (Hopefully I'm not repeating what others have already
contributed.)

In any event, according to Ammer's "Musician's Handbook of Foreign Terms,"
stentando is of Italian origin and indicates "difficult, labored, slow."
Ammer gives an alternative term of the same meaning: stentato, which may
appear in an abbreviated form as stent.

Regards!
