Tracy,
According to my Oxford Concise Dictionary of Music (EVERY MUSICIAN WHO
CONSIDERS HIM/HERSELF SERIOUS SHOULD HAVE ONE AT LEAST THIS COMPLETE),
there is no such word as Stentando. However, there **are** two entries:
Slentando, which is Italian for "becoming slower; same as 'rallentando'"
and Stendento, which is also Italian (surprise, surprise) for "extending,
i.e. spacing out the notes (same as Rallentando)".
I congratulate you for seeing this discrepancy and caring enough
about the music to try to find the answer. Now you must go and buy a god
musical dictionary so you won't have to be at the mercy of the list for
the more simple questions.
