Grant Green writes, about the need to use mouthpiece pads:

remember ever having trouble with it.

In my case, I can play with my teeth against the top of the mouthpiece and it
feels no different than when I play with a pad. The *big* difference is in
the way it sounds to me, not how it feels.

The vibrations picked up by my teeth distort the sound that reaches my ears,
unless I use a pad. From discussions with a number of clarinetists, the
internal conduction is not a problem for most people.
