As a graduate of the Academy (10 years now). I congratulate you and your son
on your brave decision. A few of the people I am closest to in the world I
met at Interlochen, plus since I didn't exactly fit the public school
"stereotype" (jock), I would have had a rough time staying in my public
school.

I also was a three-year student, which puts me (and your son) in the minority.
Most kids spend 1 or2 years there. All I can say is that the school is
excellent in every way, the academics surprisingly so. The Ivy league schools
accept at least one student each EVERY year.

Like going to a great conservatory (which I did not do, going to Nortwerstern
for obvious reasons), you enter a network of people who are going to be out
there in the real professional arts world and who recognize the name
Interlochen. The music world is small, nice to know a few people in it.

Although the atmosphere is very competitive, it got me from the "talented"
stage to the point where Mr. Marcellus was ready to take me as a College
freshman. It's a place where someone who is willing to put in the hours in
the practice room will be rewarded eventually, especially with three years to
do it. Anyway, I hope you and your son both enjoy the experience. Let me know
how it goes!
