Yes. I play single lip on a Buffet Prestige Bass Clarinet. You are right
about the vibration, but a thin layer of plastic absorbs virtually all of it.
The plastic material can be obtained from most music stores, with adhesive on
one side to hold it on. My mouthpiece is glass which makes the buzz worse.

With respect to tuners. They are very useful indeed. There are several kinds
out there and here IMHO are some good tips. If you have to set the note you
want to test don't buy that model. Get one that tells you what note you are
playing. If it tells you whether or not you are in tune by means of little
lights which flash faster or slower don't buy it. Get one with a meter which
is scaled off in cents (i.e. hundredth of a half step). I have a Seiko
Auto-tuner ST1000 which I got from Woodwinds & Brasswinds and I recommend it.
