I started playing bass clarinet after many years of baritone sax playing. I
play single lip as I do on the baritone. I suspect that this would be true
of most jazz-oriented bass clarinet players. I don't notice any more
buzziness than might be expected but find that this characteristic of my
sound diminishes as my skills on the instrument improve.
I might add re the doubling string that I also play a bit of flute and find
that I can develop a good flute embrochure with regular practice, despite
scar tissue that develops when I play a lot of baritone. Most doublers I
believe find it hardest to make the sudden embrochure changes needed for
show work rather than their embrochure being permanently affected. Any
suggestions from those with more experience with this problem would be
appreciated.
Mike
