Friends,

With all of the talk about the single vs double lip an observation from 1971
came to mind. I was touring Europe with Leonard Falcone (director MSU) and
we were in his home town of Rossato, Italy. When our band arrived in town
there was a concert in our honor. It was there that I saw Italian
clarinetists playing with the reed on the upper lip, mouthpiece upside down.
It was a big curiosity item with me then and still is to this day. Did
someone tell them to tongue 1/4" back from the mouthpiece? :-) I tried this
once and the tickle to my upper lip was a "rush"

Has anyone else witnessed this phenomena?

On an unrelated note, I received my samples of Zonda reeds. I really liked
them. Every reed in the box played with a minimum amount of adjustment. I
think I found a new reed. I hope the quality is continuously as good.

Musically yours,

Mike Moors
