The tuning issue is indeed an important one, and one that always
seemed to bother the (rather poor) amateur players I was involved with
at school. Of course, there is a class of tone-deaf amateur string
players as well (I can never understand how they get where they
are...)

The responses have in the large been joky; I certainly meant no
chauvinism in _my_ response. I _know_ the clarinet's a superior
instrument (;-) but I'm in no real position to make assertions about
the qualities of players...
