It sounds like the "Music Minus One" series is what you are
describing. I don't have the catalog here at the house, but there are
quite a few titles available.

Another interesting accompaniment technology is the "Vivace" system.
It is manufactured by Coda and as I understand it, they are running
quite a special on it right now. (Something like you but $995 worth
of accompaniment titles and they throw in the software, but don't
hold me to it. There are some other requirements to.) But I'd check
it out.

BTW, 20 miles from the nearest accompaniest is nothing. Why, when I
was a young-un, we used to have to walk 30 miles through the snow,
uphill (both ways, of course) and barefoot just to get a Rico #2 1/2
reed. It seems all the band director had was 1 1/2 and 2's. So stop
whimpering and get on with your music. :-)
