In my recent experiments with fixing clarinets (see my last post,
about fixing my old bundy) I have found that a very dilute solution of
Murphy's Oil Soap works well on the corks, as well as the pads (take a
q-tip and rub a bit on, then dry) and the body (of the plastic clarinet
anyway - It should be just as good on a wood clarinet, but I haven't tried).

An aside - My grandfather brought his old clarinet for me to take a look
at, because he couldn't get it to work (after not playing for at least 20
years). It seems to be in decent shape, but needs a few pads. It is a
"Pedler Premier" which he bought new in 1935 for $300 (a lot of money, he
said. He said it was the top of the line at the time). Can anyone tell
me anything about it?
