Actually, Oliver, you have to read the subtle political subtext; the
White House is trying to tell you that they cannot take the initiative
to plan such an event and that you should send out invitations and book
space yourself. They obviously feel such a truly bi-partisan, uplifting
event can only be organized from outside the government. Perhaps a bit
cynical of them, but since you have such a heartfelt (albeit encoded)
endorsement, you should go with it.
