three of my favorite recordings of the Brahms sonatas are:
Johnathan Cohler, and pianist whose name escapes me
Richard Stoltzman, with pianist Richard Goode
Harold Wright, and pianist Peter Serkin (Rudloph's son)
I especially recomend the last one, available on Boston records. It aslso
includes a beautiful recording of the Schumann Fantasy Pieces. However, I don't
know of any recording that uses authentic instruments.
Anyway, check 'em out, and good luck!
