Zhang Dian-ying Composer

The renown professional composer Zhang Dian-Ying, was
born in Shantung in 1939. He is presently the Vice-
Director of Chinese Cinema Phillharmonic Troupe and a
member of Chinese Film People Association. He is also
the vice-Director of Chinese Traditional Orchestra
Society and the Executive Manager of Chinese Movie
Music Society.

In 1959, Zhang Dian-Ying started to learn composing in
Central Comservatory. He further his composing technique
at the Department of Composition in china Conservatory
in 1964. In 1973, he was invited to the Music Office
of Central News & Recording Film Factory, and in 1978
he was assigned a professional composer in Chinese
Cinema Philharmonic Troupe.

His composition "Mother" (Er Hu Concerto), "The People"
(Pipa concerto), "Life" (Da Hu cencerto), "The Souls"
(Guan concerto), "The Minds" (Gu Zheng solo) and
orchestral works"Sing and Dance for the Festival",
"Yellow River-Our Mother River" and "March" were well
recieved at the "Zhang Dian-Ying Works Concert" held
at Beijing Concert Hall in 1992. He had specially
composed the orchestral work "HAO! HA!" for the NTUC
Chinese Orchestra concert held at Singapore Conference
Hall.

The music works of Zhang Dian-Ying were of classic
style, consisted with deep content and warm feelings.
The native and cordial music written by him with
delicate and clear beats rhythm not only pleasant to
the ear but also gives people encouragement. He had
composed more than two hundred national music works
and also won himself several prizes in the soundtracks
recorded. He was highly praised for his contributions
in the Chinese national muisic.

Porgramme Note

Sing and Dance for the Festival

The Chinese are of optimistic nature. They like
to sing & dance and they celebrate a many variety
of traditional festivals. This melodious tune
depicts the lively and merrily festivities.

Mothers

Composed in 1986, depicting all mothers' especially
of those in the east who are kind, industrious,
loving. this tun reveals his highly respect and
loving memory to all mothers.

Yellow River - Our Mother River

The magnificent melody in praise of Yellow River
and its people of heroic temperament.

March

The forzando and fortissimo notes resemble to that
of positive and energetic people of Hua-Xia.

The People

This Pipa concerto is full of fervent sentiment that
tells about all the good points of Hua-Xia people
and in praise of their noble ethnic spirit.

Yueh-Fei

This symphonic poem describes the great hero, Yueh-Fei.
The music was been arranged into seven parts that deals
with this hero's marvelous deeds and przises his noble
character and the strong sense of patriotism.

HAO! HA!

The music is written specially for this concert. It
depicts the frankness in the people and the energetic
and courageous spirit.
