Hello. I am interested in learning about the clarinet. I don't know much
about the instrument. Ever since I was in the 5th grade I wanted to play the
clarinet. Now 20 years later I think I am ready. But, unfortunately I don't
have a clue on how to get started. The cost of a new one is extremely high
for my budget. And I am not sure if the used ones around town are in the
condition they are supposed to be in(how can I tell if they work or not).

And once I get one, what can I do to learn how to play it. I saw one lesson
book at a music store and it was an elementary level book. But to me it
looked as if you were supposed to know something about the clarinet already.

In your opinion, how much should I pay for a used one?
What books do you recommend for the absolute beginner?
If there are private lessons available in town, how much should I pay for
each lesson?
Are there any monthly periodicals out there that I can subscribe to to learn
more about the clarinet?
I would greatly appreciate it if you can answer these questions for me
and/or give me any other information that is available. Thank you. My
