I used to spend so much time in Pedelson's that I believe that that is
where I lost my virtue!

The story was that anyone who went into Pedelson's with money, left
without it but with a lot of music in its place. One could buy
anything in Pedelson's. It did not matter how arcane or bizarre
the work was. They had a copy of it. And if you went in and
asked for a work of a certain combination ("Do you have a quartet
for clarinet, sarrousophone, ophiclide, and tromba marina?") they
would find such a work.

Now as I look at my shelves of Pedelson purchases I realize that the
one thing they never heard of was acid free paper.

I once bought the variations on Carnial of Venice in Pedelson's
when I was 16. It was for clarinet and piano. The piano part
was one side of one page. The clarinet part was 26 pages. It
was printed by Cundy Bettoney in Boston just around the time of
the second crusade.

What memories! And one went from Pedelson's to Carnegie Deli and
put grease spots all over the music. Would anyone like to buy
a used copy of the Carnival of Venice with pastrami stains on it?
