Actually, I am not sure about the thickness of a dime, never had one between
my fingers, but I could imagine that it@-----. When I purchased
my Buffet RC clarinets (A and B-flat) I had quite a problem overcoming the
venting noise, because some of the keys just were to close to the surface,
and the passing air caused that annoying noise with some specific
fingerings. (well, I still have that problem with the left hand index finger
and thumb @-----. Having a close look to the distances of my clarinets, it=
is
at some spots far more than just a medal@-----. At that time, I had
the complete clarinets repadded with leather pads, because they seemed to be
more flat than the skin type.
Anyway, the amazing event was, that when at that time, I handed the
clarinets to my teacher (Colin Touchin in Warwick Uni.) he didn=B4t cause=
any
venting noise at all. That occasion made me aware that there also might be a
relation to the embouchure and venting??
I would be happy to hear what experienced players have to say to that topic?
