Hi! It's been a long time since I sent anything to this list... *sigh*
Anyways, I figured that today, I'd ask a question before I developped a
problem. The question has to do with a bass clarinet... I used to play
bass clarinet, several years ago, and picked it up again this year to see
if I still could. For the most part, it was okay, but I had some real
problems once I got to the D above the break (for some reason, the C and B
were okay). I stopped again after only a little while because I had
something else that I should have been working on. Anyways, I'm going to
pick it up again because some of my friends want to start a small
instrumental group, and they'd like me to play a bass instrument since I'm
the only one who has access to a bass instrument that I can play. Before
I even start it again, does anyone have suggestions on things I can do to
make the transition from Bb to bass a bit easier? Also, what sort of
exercises should I be doing to work on getting notes above the break,
beyond the "keep trying" method?
I'm assuming that it's me and not the instrument that makes life
difficult, but as it's not mine, I don't know much about what's happened
to it as various people have played it... Is there anything obvious that
might cause a technical problem with notes above D?
Thanks in advance,
-> Terri <-
