Subj: Ives and the basset horn

In preparing my July donation to the clarinet library at Univ. Md., I
came across a work that I bought so long ago, it had a "Vote for
Roosevelt" sticker on it, and I am not sure which Roosevelt it was.

However, it was a work of Charles Ives called, "The Rainbow" for a
small chamber ensemble and singer. One of the instruments called
for was a basset horn and that must be why I bought it. Does anyone
know anything about this work? I did not know that Ives ever wrote
anything for basset horn, but the edition appears to be serious and
who would rearrange anything by Ives in order to insert a basset
horn part?
