Dear Klarinet friends
Last week a discussion was going on on this list about shortening register tubes
in order to get rid of 'subharmonics' in the upper register.
A question which was not answered (or did I miss something?) still stands: why
are register tubes made the way they are, protruding rather deep in the bore of
a clarinet? What is the trade off when shortening a register tube? In other
words: what acoustics/physics are involved? Does nobody know??
Just curious
