Of course, there is a pretty obvious solution. Get a used R-13. You CAN find
one for a decent price, you just have to look very hard. Don't just take any
R-13 that comes along, because often they are cracked or otherwise badly flawed
some just have funky intonation problems and that's why they're someone's
reject. However, look for a pampered horn, something bought for some spoiled
rich kid who quit after three years of lessons or something like that; I did.
If there is a nearby university, talk to the professor. I know my prof has one
he's kinda trying to sell, just because he doesn't need it. I found an 8 year
old R-13 with a B-45 mpc and the big fancy schmancy case and all that stuff for
$800. It's an excellent instrument and I use it now in college, although on a
different mpc and barrel setup. I really think you should try for a used R-13
or other "top o' the line" instrument. It will be good for HS and college,
should you choose to continue.
And there's my $.02. BTW, my Zonda sample came. They looknicely cut, but
haven't tried em yet. Right now, I'm just taking in the beauty of evenly cut
rails. :)
