I used the 5RV for 17 years, in there I accidentally bought a 5RV lyre
and used it for a while, when I didn't realize it was a different
mouthpiece. I personally prefered the 5RV, but I believe the 5RV lyre was
a little easier to blow - so maybe you wouldn't have to work as hard to
get a clear sound in the pp range.

I say "used", because I've just switched to the M13, and just love it. I
like a closed mouthpiece, and this one is a little more closed than the
5RV. The tuning is very good.

You may also want to try the 5RV13, Vandoren is making a "13" version of
just about all their mouthpieces now, and they are better suited to R-13
American tuning (not quite as sharp I believe).

P.S. I've tried a variety of ligatures, but invariably stuck with my
Vandoren reverse ligature.

Just try a variety of mouthpieces and ligature, and pick what *you* like
the best!
