I thank David Ross for pointing out that Stamitz' Op. 19, No. 4 in E major
calls for a B-natural clarinet. He is also correct in pointing out that Op.
19 consists of 6 quartets. I had omitted mentioning Nos. 5 & 6 because I
thought that they were scored for bassoon plus strings.

Since Craig Hill first mentioned Stamitz' quartets as works that may have
employed an A clarinet, I have wondered whether Stamitz may have had a D
clarinet in mind for some of his works.
