Ro water will not rin out of the hole and onto the player. The portion of
the tube which extends into the bore causes whatever moisture which has
collected at or above that part of the bore to go around the hole.

Many years ago, several makers tried putting the register key hole on the
top of the bore but this proved awkward when considering the key
mechanism.
