Ed Lowry mentions

Doesn't

My favorite cover reversal goes back to the Mercury LP series with the
Frederick Fennell Eastman Wind Ensemble recording of the Mozart K. 361
Serenade. This jacket shows a left-handed oboe, clarinet, basset horn and
contrabassoon as well as a right-handed French horn!

Seeing the contrabassoon on the jacket, I recalled Dan Leeson's comments
about the autograph clearly specifying the string bass and read Fennell's
notes. Fennell refers to the autograph and then spends a long paragraph
rationalizing why he splits the contrabass line (are you ready for this,
Dan?) among the string bass, the contrabassoon and the contrabass clarinet.

I don't know about Dan, but I can certainly forgive Fennell for this breach.
He points out that, ". . . it was this beautiful serenade . . . . which
compelled me toward the formation of the Eastman Wind Ensemble . . . ."

One other interesting bit - the performers include Elsa Ludewig on clarinet
and Rolf Legband on basset horn.
