To those of you who heard the NPR update of the Young Person's Guide to the
Orchestra I recommend Garrison Keillor's Young Lutheran's Guide to the
Orchestra which is also a stitch. It's on tape at your bookstore with
musical (?) examples and also in one of his books--I forget which, but the
library should have them. He suggests that Lutherans who are taught from
early childhood to be patient and attentive ought to be tympanists who have
to wait 800 measures or so and then do the right thing precisely. There are
many other delightfully silly remarks...It's a hoot for someone with a
Conformist Middle Western upbringing, Lutheran or not!

Joie
