I'm no clarinet expert, but I play one on TV, so here's what I have to say:

If you have to adjust the center joint to tune the clarinet, wouldn't that
suggest an intonation problem with the instrument itself, and wouldn't it be
better to get tuning rings fitted for the center joint to fix it? I know
that lots of people always pull out a little from the center, but if
clarinets were made to be played that why, wouldn't they be built like that.
I'm really scratching my head on this one because it seems like if you have
an intonation problem, you'd take measures to permanantly fix it instead of
coming up with a makeshift sollution such as that. Hmm. I wonder what others
will have to offer.
