Klarinet Archive - Posting 000034.txt from 1996/05

I'm 6'1", which isn't that big, but I, too, had to have two chest x-rays
done recently because my lungs were too large to fit on the film.
I think that playing the clarinet has not only increased my lung
capacity, but has helped me to lose weight in three ways.
First, I'm convinced that I burn calories and raise my metabolism by
playing. In the summer months, when I practice in a non-air-conditioned
room, I perspire the way I do when I'm pushing hard on my bicycle. I feel
like I'm exerting quite a bit of energy.
Second, the clarinet satisfies the oral urge. There've been times when
I've craved a snack and picked up the horn instead. After 15 minutes of
playing, the urge for a sweet is gone.
Third, the clarinet, like exercise, relieves stress, which can create a
desire to stuff your face.
I remember when I started playing the clarinet, I lost about 10 pounds
the first month.
Anyone else experience this? Does anyone want to collaborate on "The
Woodwind Diet"?
