I certainly do not object to the injection of political reality in a
discussion pertaining to the "business" of music and unions. If one can
discuss intonation, one can certainly mention politics! (in Paul Harvey's
bedtime book for clarinetists he says "never discuss religion, politics or
intonation"!) I am glad to see some dangerously pink sentiments being
brought forth. Powerful economic forces are at work again nowadays and I
am sure a lot of people are feeling squeezed. Why should musicians not
make a wage as good as garbage truck drivers?
