One of the other clarient majors here bought a R-13 and as
we were checking instraments for air leakage, hers was horrible. Our
professor at the time did some work on it and found that the wood
on this R-13 was so bad that when put underwater the air was leaking
right through the wood. Kinda like when you blow through a water logged
reed. At this point he somehow coated the inside of the clarinet
with superglue, sucking it throught the sections. (Almost glued
his lips to the instrament) Thing seals tighter than any clarinet
I've ever seen. It is a thin enough coat that intonation was not
affected, and overall it playes great.
Just a side comment =-)
