Steve Prescott mentioned oiling and waxing the bores of new clarinets-
What is the proceedure for waxing? Will any wax work or is carnuba (spelling?)
or another special product required? I have an old Buffet R-13 that I
want to disassemble and oil well. Is it feasible to wax it then? I am
now living in Louisiana- the extremes of humidity here are really making
me nervous.
To add a note on the Union discussion. There are cases where, especially in
school productions, students are an intrinsic part of the pit. There may or
may not be the money available to pay a professional. There are also cases
of too many productions occurring at the same time. I was even called up
last year to play Fiddler on the Roof for a church production. There happened
to be another major musical that the pros were playing instead. No matter
what your field there is a possibility of non-union labor. If it makes anyone
feel any better I do not usually take paying jobs. I usually volunteer my
time to perform with school and community groups. Unless you count the
National Guard and I doubt that they would be too impressed with Union sentiment
of any kind. Just to set my opinion straight- I think the Union is a good
thing but as someone else noted: it depends directly on its members.
