Klarinet Archive - Posting 000490.txt from 1996/04

Subj: Bouffil #3 and Krommer DC in Eb
Date: Wed, 17 Apr 1996 11:50:10 -0400

The Krommer Double Concerto in Eb major and Bouffil's
Trio, Opus 7, No. 3 are now on my subdirectory -- the
complete works in midi format and the two clarinet parts
for the Krommer and the first clarinet part for the Bouffil
in PC-Finale 3.2 format. The midi files are Type I and
are compatible with Macs and PCs. I have attached the
current index followed by instructions on downloading by
ftp for the newcomers to KLARINET. Also, on the Clarinet
FAQ, maintained by Victor Freyer, one can download these
files directly from the Web (many thanks, Victor). I have
had consistent success using Netscape, but Prodigy has
inconsistent reliability for me.

Beware of the number 3 trio. It has a melody which gets
stuck in your head!

How to get files from my anonymous ftp subdirectory:

Look at INDEX.TXT;1 to find out what is available in this subdirectory.

I have established a subdirectory, [anonymous.music], on this subdirectory
to share music files of various formats with friends and
colleagues having similar interest.

*******

What I offer so far is a mixed bag. There are .mid (midi) and .mus files
created by IBM compatible Finale 3.0. There are several "text" format
fixed-length-record music files which must first be converted with
programs indicated at the beginning of each file. I have made them
available in this format simply because we don't know yet what will
work the best with most people.

In any case, here is how you go about downloading them.

At your home prompt, type

ftp dhvx20.csudh.edu

Then, login as "anonymous"
Give your e-mail address as the password

Then type

cd music or cd [music] or maybe cd music, one of them is bound to work.

At the ftp> prompt, type dir to look at the names of the
available files.

Also at the ftp> prompt, type binary, to make sure the file will
not be corrupted when it is sent to you.

If you do not know the name of the file you wish to download,
use the following procedure first to download the file
INDEX.TXT;1 (either in ASCII or BINARY format) in order to
find out the identities of the various files available.

Type get

At the Local filename: prompt, type the full name of the file
you wish to download.

At the Remote filename prompt, type anything you want as the
name of the file.

You may also use one of the following procedures to look at the file
INDEX.TXT;1 without having to exit from ftp:
FTP> get index.txt tt: (This command is said to work on VAX computers
using the operating system VMS)
FTP> get index.txt - (This command is said to work on ULTRIX systems)
FTP> get index.txt "|pg" (This is said to work if you want to look at the
index.txt and have the scrolling pause from
page to page)

Finally, you may use the command get index.txt and then at the FTP> prompt,
type
SPAWN
That gets you back to your system prompt ON SOME COMPUTERS so as to be able
to look at the index in your own familiar operating system. Unfortunately,
I can't remember the command to "reconnect" to ftp. Also, it is said that
if you allow the ftp connection to lie idle for too long, you will be
automatically disconnected. Good luck!
